Careful readers of our 2018/19 brochure and fans of playwright Hannah Cowley’s The Belle’s Stratagem (1780) will be dismayed to see that we have accidentally described George Farquhar’s The Beaux’ Stratagem (1708). Our good intention was to present to the public the Restoration comedy by a man in repertory with the late Eighteenth Century comedy by a woman, but we changed our plans in order to let Hannah Cowley’s work stand on her own. Unfortunately, what we published was the description of the play we are not doing. We apologize for this mistake, and we hope that you will come to see a fine play about the comic stratagems of Letitia Hardy, one of the favorite roles of the great Ellen Terry.
