As campers wrung out their clothes and cooled off from the lakeside heat, the next camp tradition drew closer and closer.

The Masquerade Dance, a favorite event among many returners and first-timers alike, is a time for campers to throw their troubles aside and break out their dance moves. Fletcher Collins Theater, MBU’s black box theater and one of many rehearsal rooms used for ASCTC, was transformed into a colorful dance floor and snack bar. Assistant Camp Director Johnny Williams III designed the multi-color lights, Social Leader Brooke Crittenden curated the tunes, and Social RDA Topher Zane organized cookies, chips, and other delicious treats and beverages.

Campers arrived in costumes and outfits of all different styles. From formal to heroic (Spiderman, to be specific), they showed off their finest masks and accessories.

Memorable song/dance moments include: the Cha Cha Slide, the “Rasputin” dance led by Topher Zane, a singalong to the Beatles “Hey Jude” in honor of camper Jude Yaktin, and a nightcap of the Macarena.

After two long hours of revelry and merriment, campers headed back to the dorms and drifted off to sleep with visions of Sir Andrew Kick-shawing in their heads.
