WRITTEN by Jane Austen, adapted by Emma Whipday
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” – Jane Austen in Pride and Prejudice
Surrounded by four sisters, a dithering but determined matchmaking mother, and a beloved, long-suffering father, Elizabeth Bennet is one of literature’s most cherished heroines. In her iconic journey toward love, she learns the pitfalls of hasty judgment and discovers the difference between superficial and genuine goodness. The sharp wit and irresistible romance of Jane Austen’s masterwork has won generations of fans—now see it come to life on stage in a lively new adaptation by ASC veteran playwright Emma Whipday!
This show will be ensemble-directed as an ASC Artists’ Renaissance production.
ASC is thrilled to partner with musical group Spare Parts for all in-show music in this production (excluding pre-show and intermission setlists). Check out the Digital Program for more info.
“The ASC has opened 2024 with a truly delightful production of Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice. As directed by the ensemble itself, the show has all the wit, character, and measured stratagems fans of Austen know and love..Pride and Prejudice is a perfect evening out: a merry-go-round of flirtations, intrigues, imperious dowagers, edgy bachelors, ditzes, and know-it-alls, with an ending that is as improbable as it is inevitable. Emma Whipday’s stage adaptation is spot-on, as is the show itself.”
