What we did
Today we were in Deming!!! We started with another round of Czechoslovakia for our warm-up, which went faster and faster every time we finished the miniround, and then we did it completely without talking, which was a challenge that the campers quickly rose to. After that, we finished up blocking act 1 and started with blocking act 2. Then Scarlet, our music captain, did some work on the show song.
Quick and Quotable
From the play:
- “Diana’s lip / Is not more smooth, and rubious; thy small pipe / Is as the maiden’s organ, shrill, and sound / And all is semblative a woman’s part” – Orsino almost figures out Viola’s disguise
From the director:
- “Y’all are bros! Like maybe you have like a bro handshake even.” – Hailey, on Orsino and “Cesario”
- “Maria, you are the best wingwoman I think I’ve ever seen.” – Hailey
- “You’re Alfred and Olivia’s Batman.” – Hailey, to Malvolio
From the cast:
- “You’re like the really goofy dude that does weird stuff, like one of those podcast dudes, and you’re like, “this is for you, Olivia.” – Kahlan, on Orsino
Production Insights
Whenever I watch the campers in action, I am so happy. Seeing them soak up every directive given to them makes me enthusiastic about their various talents and hopeful that the performance is going to be a hit. As for me, being a member of this production is always so exciting for me, and seeing the hard work that the campers are putting into this show makes me love it even more than I had before coming to work here. Even though we’ve only had four rehearsals, I can tell that this is shaping up into one of the greatest plays ever to grace the Blackfriars’ stage. The show song is extremely catchy, and you all are going to love it when you hear it. It’s always fun when an ensemble comes together to connect and pour their hearts and souls into a piece of theater, and I am thankful that I get the opportunity to see that in action every day that we work on this show.
