Show title: The Tragedy Of Antony and Cleopatra
Director: Mili Koncelik
Staff crew: Analise Toone, Topher Zane (RDAs), Julia Hill, John Spellman (interns)
What we did
We divided up and some went downstairs to block and discuss fight sequences for 2.5 and 3.3. Others stayed in the main playhouse area to block scenes, starting with 2.2. When not blocking or working on fight sequences, the campers ran lines together. We blocked 2.2 and 2.3 before going back to 2.1 in the main playhouse space, before going forward to 2.6.
Quick and Quotable
- From the play: “You have broken the article of your oath, which you shall never have tongue to charge me with.” (Caesar, 2.2)
- From the director: “Someone is going to burn my house down and I am not happy about it.” (talking about a line delivery) “Yes, my friends, watch me monologue.” “Show concern for the furniture, yes.”
- From the cast: “How polished is your silver spoon?” “Very. I have people for that.”
“You have such big stools.” “A gaggle of goons, you might say?”
Production Insights
When dealing with a show as big as Antony & Cleopatra within a strict time schedule as ASCTC, dividing up who is doing what when makes the time that much more well-spent. When I’ve acted in scenes or productions, there is always something you (as the actor) can be doing. Whether it be running lines or discussing scenes with a scene partner(s) or working directly with the director to put it on its feet, it all can work toward making the show better. Finding out you as an individual actor can help further the production while working by yourself is often one of the most beneficial ways to move it along. It is something I’ve learned as an actor and something I always make sure to put full effort into so when the director asks or wants to see proof of individual work, I always have something to share.
