While we mainly post about rehearsals and camp events here on the blog, the campers have had many wonderful experiences in their (albeit rare) free time. Many have gotten together in groups to go out to dinner in downtown Staunton. Our favorite haunts are Shenandoah Pizza, the Pampered Palate, Byers Street Bistro, and the Split Banana.

Campers have become quite well-versed in Staunton’s dining scene, as well as the many shops down E Beverly St. During free time, you can find these kids buying toys and trinkets at Pufferbellies, the Dragon’s Hoard, the Made Store, and Latitudes.
Pufferbellies is the MVP, with campers often adorned with their signature blue paper bag when returning to the dorm.
Sometimes, campers opt to stay in the dorm during free time. You can always find them in one of the many lounges, with each one having a unique activity always happening.
The first-floor lounge is the largest, and is where many campers hang out together on the couch, play music, or play large-scale games. One of our fearless interns, John Spellman, is often found in this lounge leading an intense game of “Blood on the Clocktower”. Campers have even used the downstairs kitchen to bake a cake!
The second-floor lounge has become a bit of an artistic outlet. Camper Laura Medley has graciously offered her many coloring books and very nice markers for everyone to enjoy. You can always find campers coloring calming scenes of cute animals and simple landscapes.
The third-floor lounge is often the rowdiest, with large group discussions about anything and everything. This lounge is also where nightly meetings and lullabies take place, so you can always find something happening in this lounge.
Whether in rehearsal or hanging with friends, campers always find a way to have fun. Stay tuned this week for more information on the Final Performance Festival right here on the camp blog!
